Lake Garda

Lake Garda, called "Benacus" by the Romans, is the largest lake in Italy, with a length of 52 km, maximum width of 19 km and a surface of 370 square kilometers.

The road surrounding the Lake is 155 km long and the deepest point lies in Torri del Benaco: 346 m. With an average annual temperature of 13° C, the climate is quite mild and this explains the Mediterranean vegetation.
The shape is typical of a glacial Valley created by a glacier Paleolithic. Although the traces of the actions of the glacier you can still see today, it is thought that the glacier occupied an existing depression, created by erosion thousands of years ago.
The Lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona, Brescia and Trento. Being easily accessible from the North via the Brenner pass, the Lake is a prime tourist destination.
The Lake has several small islands, the largest are privately owned and Isola del Garda Isola di San Biagio, also known as rabbit island. Lie off of San Felice del Benaco, West Coast.
The main tributary is the Sarca River, while the only outlet is the Mincio river, which carries the waters of the Lake in the Po and the Adriatic.
